基本の文法 (レッスン １）

“と”is the equivalent of the English conjunction “and.”

1. まりさん と けんじさん は 高校(こうこう) 2年生(ねんせい) です。
Mari-san and Kenji-san are second-year high school students.

2. わたしは 映画(えいが) と 音楽(おんがく) が すき です。
I like movies and music.

3. 机(つくえ) の 上(うえ) に 本(ほん) と ノート が あります。
There is a book and a notebook on the desk.

4. 月曜日(げつようび) と 水曜日(すいようび) と 金曜日(きんようび) に サッカー の 練習(れんしゅう) が あります。
We have soccer training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.


「と」 is used for connecting nouns. Nouns combined with 「と 」can then be used as a single noun in the sentence.


N: hour, time
In this form “に”is used as a time marker to indicate the point of time an action will/has taken place.

1. わたし は 7 時半(じはん) に お起きます。
I get up at half past 7 in the morning.

2. 11 時(じ) に 寝(ね)ます。
I go to bed at 11 o’clock.

3.何時(なんじ) に 起(お) きますか。
What time do you get up?

3. 7 時(じ) に 起(お) きます。
I get up at 7 o’clock.

4. 日曜日(にちようび) に テニス を します。
I play tennis on Sunday.

The N indicating the time could be in terms of hours, days or dates.

1. 6 月(がつ) 15 日(にち) に サッカー の 試合(しあい) が ありました。
We had a soccer match on the 15th of June.

2a. いつテニスをしますか。
When will you play tennis?

2b. あしたテニスをします。
I will play tennis tomorrow.

3a. 土曜日(どようび)、何(なに) を しましたか。
What did you do on Saturday?

3b. 映画(えいが) を 見(み) ました。
I watched a movie.

4. わたし は 夏休(なつやす)み に 旅行(りょこう) しました。
I travelled during the summer break.

5. けんじさん の 誕生日(たんじょうび) に パーティー を します。
We're going to have a party for Kenji-san's birthday.


「に」indicates the time an event takes place.
Such words as 「夏休(なつやす)み」or「誕生び日(たんじょう)」 can be followed by「に」.
「に」cannot be preceded by words like「今」「きのう」「きょう」「あした」or the interrogatives 「いつ」.
There are cases when the days of the week are sometimes not followed by「に」.


“も”same meaning as "also"

1. わたし は 3 年生(ねんせい) です。 田中(たなか) さん も 3 年生(ねんせい) です
I am a third-year student. Tanaka-san is a third-year student, too.

2. わたしはパンがすきです。ごはんもすきです。
I like bread. I like rice, too.


「も」indicates that there is a similar object to N1.In these instances,「Nは」and「Ｎが」are replaced by「Ｎも」

1. 日曜日(にちようび) に せんたく を します。 そうじ も します。
I do the laundry on Sunday. I do my house cleaning, too.

2. 新聞(しんぶん) は ロビー に あります。 図書館(としょかん) に も あります。
The newspaper is in the lobby. There's one in the library, too.

3. 6 時(じ) に 時計(とけい) の ベル が なります。 6 時(じ) 5 分(ふん) に も ベル が なります。
The clock bell rings at 6. It rings at 5 past 6, too.

4. 夏休(なつやす)み に 北海道(ほっかいどう) へ 行(い) きました。 沖縄(おきなわ) へ も 行(い) きました。
I went to Hokkaido during summer vacation. I also went to Okinawa.

5. 毎週(まいしゅう) 田中(たなか) さん と テニス を します。 ときどき 木村(きむら) さん と も します。
I play tennis with Tanaka-san every week. Sometimes, I also play with Kimura-san.

6. 中山(なかやま) さん から 手紙(てがみ) が 来(き) ました。 田中(たなか) さん から も 来(き)まし　　た。
I received a letter from Nakayama-san. I received one from Tanaka-san, too.


「N を」can be replaced by 「Ｎも」. 「も」can be attached to the particles 「に」「へ」「で」「と」「から」「まで」.
